What Is Content Writing And Why It’s An Art For You To Master!

Just like having a good voice doesn’t make you a singer, knowing how to write doesn’t necessarily make you a writer. You have to master its art, and that’s what we’re going to talk about throughout this blog.

What is content writing?

So what is content writing? Strictly speaking, it’s a way you can communicate your ideas to your audience. Now, how clearly your audience understands your content; depends entirely on how good of a writer you are. Your content will have people hooked(if it’s a good one of course).

Why content writing is a skill that needs to be mastered?

Doesn’t matter which field you’re in; if you don’t know how to write content- you probably aren’t going to do well in your career, yeah I know that’s harsh but pretty much true. Why am I saying this?- Okay, let’s assume you’re a software engineer, you have all the skills in the world that could get you a decent job. But, you don’t know how to write your resume, your job application, or your CV, how could you expect to get a decent job then? Well, probably not. So, here’s where content writing comes into play.

Content writing is a crucial part of communication skills and pretty much everyone knows the importance of communication skills in today’s world. How you communicate with others can get you tons of opportunities right at your door. Formal communication mostly is done via writing and that’s why you need to learn content writing to boost your career progress.

How do you spot remarkable content?

You know it when you see it, you can’t get your eyes off the page you’re reading. You read it effortlessly, it pulls you down to the ending without you even noticing. That’s what an amazing piece of writing looks like, it tells you a great story, moreover; it makes you feel good.

What is Search Engine Optimization(SEO)?

There are thousands and even millions of people(in some cases) writing on the same topic that you are writing on. Then, how do you get your page listed on the top when someone around the globe searches for that topic? Here, SEO or Search Engine Optimization comes into play. You have to optimize your content in such a way that Google recognizes your article or blog; as more relevant to what the reader has searched. You have to use various strategies like keyword ranking, Share of Voice(SOV), to get your page ranked on the top.

What are the various popular types of content writing?

Here are the most popular types of content writings:

Blog Writing:
Blogging is somewhat an informal type of content writing, a good blogger knows how to turn complex topics into easier, casual, easy-to-understand content. A blogger is also more of an SEO expert, a good blogger knows where to put keywords in his blog. A good blogger integrates the keywords in his blog/article without compromising the readability and quality of the blog. He will settle with a title for a topic with the highest clickthrough rate for that specific topic.

Copywriting:
Copywriting is a type of writing whose main purpose is to generate sales, unlike content writing whose main purpose is to spread knowledge. Copywriting is sales-oriented writing which generates sales for a specific product or service. Things like SEO have little use in copywriting when compared with content writing. A good copywriter knows how to convert prospects into customers for a specific business. A copywriter speaks the language of the brand directly to the customer. A Copywriter requires analysis, it requires data and details from the brand so that it manages its craft accordingly.

Technical Writing:
As the name gives it away, technical writing is writing which is based on technology. A technical writer writes complex technology-related articles in such a way that the reader finds it easy to understand. Even if the reader has none or little knowledge of the topic they’re reading on, he won’t find it much difficult to read. But, that depends on the skills of the technical writer. A Technical writer provides in-depth knowledge of software, a machine, or a gadget, in such an easy way that the reader doesn’t find it difficult to understand.

Report Writing:
Somewhat similar to technical writing, report writing also requires in-depth knowledge of the subject. The report requires exceptional accuracy- it must be on factual data and should not involve the feelings or opinions of the writer nor the editor, straight information- as it is. A Report writer researches heavily on the topic he has to write with the main purpose to inform the readers about something.

Marketing and Communications Writing:
As the name suggests, this type of content writing focuses on the marketing of some product or service that someone has to offer. It consists of various types of writing like Email writing, ad-copy, press releases, media posts, blogs, white papers, video scripts, etc. The main purpose of this type of writing is to convince the reader to take action on whatever the writer is pitching to them. This type of writing has more to deal with the psychology of the reader.

Business Writing:
Business writing is kind of similar to marketing but with a different objective. Whereas marketing focuses on convincing the reader to buy their product, enroll in their course or subscribe to their newsletter, business writing does the same but to another business or entity or supplier, not to customers directly. It involves writing memos, official emails, concept papers, etc.

Conclusion

With all that’s said, you should’ve understood by now that why content writing is important in today’s world, impeccable communication skills can give your progress in your career an exponential curve. Content writing is a must if you want to perfectly utilize your other technical skills.

You’re Following This Universal Principle Everyday But Haven’t Acknowledged Yet!

How many apps do you have installed on your phone?

How many apps do you have installed on your phone?

How many of them do you use most often?

All of them?

No, The answer is 20%- “20% of your total apps account for 80% of your time spent on your phone in total and vice versa”.

This is what you can call “The 80-20 Principle” and it applies universally to absolutely everything!

  • 20% of your present activities will have 80% consequences in the future.
  • 20% of all the people you know have 80% significance in your life.
  • You wear 20% of your clothes 80% of the time.
  • 20% of roads have 80% of traffic.
  • 80% of crimes are committed by 20% of criminals.
  • 20% of drivers cause 80% of accidents in the world.
  • 20% of the world’s population holds 80% of the global income.
  • 20% of land produces 80% food and minerals.
  • 20% of the products of a company generate 80% revenue for the company.
  • The list is endless.

The Pareto Principle

The rule or principle that I’ve just stated is also known as the Pareto Principle as it was first discovered by Vilfredo Pareto, an Italian Economist; back in 1897. He was once analyzing the land distribution of England and found that 80% of the total land was acquired by the 20% population of England, he further dove into this and found that 80% of total money was also acquired by 20% population, he then came up with this simple yet extraordinary idea which later changed many lives. The validity of this principle remains the same as it was 200 years ago.

This principle was later popularized by best selling author Richard Koch in his book- “The 80-20 Principle: The Secrets Of Achieving More With Less”.

Real-World Implications Of The Pareto Principle

IN BUSINESS:

Ever wondered why most startups fail? One of the reasons is that they spend most of their energy, money, and time on less significant things like company logos, etc. Yes, these things are important but have just a 20% effect on the output of the company.

Most recently, Steve Jobs demonstrated the power of this simple rule- Apple had more than 300 products in the market, but Steve Jobs; upon his rejoining in Apple, squeezed the product line to just 10!

And, the rest is history…

IN SOCIAL LIFE:

When it comes to social life, 20% of your friends will account for 80% of your happiness(in social life). So, better keep your circle small and spend more time with that 20% of people in your life.

Conclusion

This rule doesn’t suggest you not to work hard or work more, the main CONCEPT is just that “Minority Inputs Produce Majority Outputs”. This principle will improve the efficiency of your work to a great extent!

The Missing Character In Scam 1992 And Why The Director Didn’t Include Him In The Harshad Mehta Story!

If you've watched Scam 1992 Web Series by Sony Liv, you already know who was Harshad Mehta and what he did and all that- not gonna bore you with that same story. The person that I'm addressing changed the stock market to a far greater extent than Harshad Mehta, when stats are something you care about a lot!

The person I’m addressing here is- Ketan Parekh(Note that you can click on the Wikipedia links for more info that I’ll provide throughout this blog).

Who Was Is Ketan Parekh?

Ketan Parekh is an Indian Stock Broker(now banned), joined Harshad Mehta’s Firm Grow More Research and Consultancy Services as a trainee of Harshad Mehta back in 1990, he was also involved in the 1992 Harshad Mehta scam but was not caught in involvement in the same, though he was caught in another scam named Canfina Mutual Fund. He was CA by profession and came from a stockbroking family background.

Harshad Mehta Scam Vs Ketan Parekh Scam In Terms Of Magnitude

What was the size of Harshad Mehta Scam- 3000Cr, 4000Cr, or 5000Cr? If inflation is taken into consideration at a 6% annual rate as declared by SEBI, the amount goes up as high as 24,000Cr(As Of 2020). But……

You probably don’t know the size of the Ketan Parekh Scam. How Big Was it- 10,000Cr? Maybe 15,000Cr? No, The gigantic scam when exposed(2001) was of the size 30-40,000(Yes, In Crores), and if again; inflation is taken into consideration at a 6% annual rate, guess what? It goes above the mark of Rs 1 Lakh Crore. Yes, that’s the actual size of the scam as of writing this blog(2020).

Do you call Harshad Mehta “The Big Bull”? Okay, what would you call Ketan Parekh then? Gigantic Bull or something? Okay… Uh…. No Lame Jokes…. Back to the point.

Comparison Of Harshad Mehta Scam and Ketan Parekh Scam In Terms Of Complexity

If you just take a look at the above image, you can tell how complex was Ketan Parekh’s method of executing the scam. After Harshad Mehta misused the Ready Forward Deal, SEBI was given more authority and power than before(It was just a non-statutory body without any statutory power). Ketan Parekh knew he can’t use the same Ready Forward Deal to execute the scam, also he couldn’t use Bank’s funds to inflate the stock prices as Harshad Mehta did.

So, he approached Institutional Investors with his institutional stockbroking firm (NH Securities) to fund his stocks(they were called K10 Stocks later on), he focused mainly on 10 stocks that were of sectors- Telecommunication, Technology, and media. But institutional investors require certain criteria to be met by the company they’re investing in, and one of those is that the company’s shares should be trading in high volumes(basically buying and selling of shares in a company creates volume: Higher the number of shares traded- Higher the volume).

Knowing this, Ketan Parekh came up with an outstandingly innovative idea- He traded shares between his own companies so that it looked like the company’s shares are being traded in high volumes through which he convinced the institutional investors to invest in those companies, and as usual, if the institutional investors invest in a company, retail investors(People like you and me) follow them, which caused the stock prices of those companies to inflate like crazy. He would then sell those stocks to make some crazy high profits.

He inflated the share price of the following companies to this extent:

HFCL(Himachal Futuristic Communications Limited)- Rs 42 to Rs 2300

ZEE- Rs 750 to 11000

GTL(Global Tele Systems)- Rs 85 to Rs 3100

Now, Ketan Parekh required another source to manipulate the stock prices consistently. He then approached the banks- MMCB and GTB and took 800Cr and 100Cr loans by both the banks respectively and used them to inflate the prices of the K10 Stocks. No one noticed why the stock prices were going up as the Dot Com Bubble was on the rise worldwide.

The End Of Ketan Parekh Story

Ketan Parekh was exposed by a (now famous)financial journalist- Sucheta Dalal (Yes, she was the one who exposed Harshad Mehta as well). It will be too complicated if I tell you how his scam was exposed. So, Screwww it!!!

Why Is Ketan Parekh Not Included in the Scam Web Series?

If you follow Hansal Mehta(Director of scam 1992), he announced that he was working on “Season 1” of a series based on the book- The Scam: who won, who lost, who got away by Sucheta Dalal and Debashis Basu.

So, there will be another season of “The Scam” web series which will completely revolve around Ketan Parekh.

3 REASONS WHY THE STOCK MARKET IS NOT FOR YOU!

As of 2020, the Stock Market is becoming more fascinating for teenagers than ever, and almost every one of them thinks they can get easy money from it.

But, the Stock Market is not some “Get Rich Quick” scheme, you may even have to sell your house if you’ve invested heavily without any knowledge and the market sinks to the bottom of the ocean(Search Google and you’ll find these stories of people).

Now, As I think and the study suggests, Here are the 3 main reasons you might have to turn your back on the stock market before incurring some serious losses.

So, Without getting into technicals, Let’s get started…

1. YOU’RE IMPATIENT AF!

Warren Buffet defines the stock market as a tool/medium to transfer the money from the “Impatient” to the “Patient”. The key skill required to get success in the stock market is your Emotional Discipline, you should have total control over your emotional behavior. High “EQ” is more beneficial than a higher “IQ” if you want to get into this; build an emotional discipline first.

2. YOU WANT TO GET RICH QUICK!

As I said earlier, the Stock market is not some get-rich-quick scheme that’ll make you a millionaire overnight(Yes it can but it’s highly unlikely). If you invest your hard-earned money in stocks, you HAVE to look for the long term benefits, and by long term I mean “decades”, There’s no such thing as getting rich quick “GROW UP!”.

3. YOU’RE TRYING TO PREDICT THE MARKET(LoL)!

Oh! I “think” that share will rise in the next 2 months, I “think” the market will fall in the next fiscal year, if these phrases come to your mind, “Move out or gain some knowledge first”. There has been no human alive to date nor will be; many tried and failed. It’s a game of emotions and you can’t read people’s emotions, as simple as that!

If you’re trying to predict the market, ‘You’re gambling with your money” and if you do, better gamble in a Casino, the rewards are better there.

Bonus- BUT I STILL WANT TO GET INTO SHARE MARKET

The stock market is not as risky as it seems to be. It’s just that you should have control over your emotions and have patience in the “Bear run” of the market.

HERE ARE 5 TIPS I CAN GIVE YOU IF YOU WANT TO BEGIN YOUR JOURNEY IN THE STOCK MARKET

– Learn to read the financial statements of a company.

– Know if the company you’re investing in; is worth the price its share is selling for or not i.e. Do a proper fundamental analysis of the company.

– Always buy “Bargain Issues”(more on that later).

-Don’t follow any expert’s, family member’s, friend’s advice EVER! Do your research.

– Find a mentor who can teach you Investing.
